Adenomyosis Ultrasound and MRI Question List
A plain question list for adenomyosis ultrasound or MRI visits, with prompts about what imaging can show, what it may miss, report words, overlap with fibroids or endometriosis, and what to track next.
Use this before or after imaging for possible adenomyosis.
It helps you ask clear questions. It does not read your scan. It does not diagnose adenomyosis.
Simple imaging notes
Fill in what you know.
Question Your note Why was imaging ordered? What symptoms led to it? Is it ultrasound, MRI, or both? Who will explain the result? When will you get results? What follow up is planned?
What imaging can help with
Ultrasound or MRI can give your clinician more detail. They can look for signs that may fit adenomyosis. They can also look for other uterus or ovary issues.
Ask:
What question is this scan trying to answer? What adenomyosis signs will the scan look for? Will it check uterus size? Will it check the uterine muscle wall? Will it check the junctional zone? Will it look for fibroids? Will it look for ovarian cysts or endometriomas? Could MRI add detail after ultrasound? Would more imaging change my care plan?
What imaging cannot answer
Imaging does not explain every symptom by itself. A report also may use cautious words.
Ask:
What did the scan show? What did it not show? Was anything unclear? Were the images limited in any way? Does this scan fit my symptoms? Could adenomyosis still be discussed if the scan is unclear? Could another cause still fit? What symptoms should prompt follow up?
Do not try to read the images yourself. Ask your clinician to explain the report in plain words.
Report words to ask about
Your report may use terms you do not know. Ask what each word means in your case.
Report word Ask this Junctional zone Was it seen clearly? Was it mentioned? Myometrium Did the muscle wall look even or uneven? Bulky uterus Does this mean enlarged? Does it matter here? Globular uterus What does this shape mean in my case? Heterogeneous What looked mixed or uneven? Adenomyoma Was a focal area seen? Fibroid Could this explain bleeding, pain, or pressure? Endometrioma Was an ovarian cyst seen?
These words do not tell you the next step alone. Your symptoms, exam, goals, and history matter too.
Questions about overlap
Adenomyosis, endometriosis, and fibroids can have overlapping symptoms. Do not use this sheet to choose a diagnosis.
Ask:
Could my bleeding pattern fit adenomyosis, fibroids, or both? Could my pain timing fit endometriosis too? Could pelvic pressure come from an enlarged uterus or fibroids? Could bowel or bladder symptoms need separate review? What findings point away from one cause? What findings still leave questions? Should I track symptoms by cycle day? Should I bring a short symptom summary next time?
Questions for follow up
Use these when a clinician reviews the report.
Question Notes What is the main finding? What finding matters most for symptoms? Does the report mention adenomyosis? Does the report mention fibroids? Does the report mention endometriosis signs? Does the report mention the ovaries? What should I track next? When should I come back? What symptoms mean I should call sooner?
What to track after imaging
Track what your clinician asks for. If you are not sure, start here.
Track Why it helps Period start and end dates Shows length and timing. Heavy flow days Shows when bleeding peaks. Product counts or cup amounts Gives a rough flow record. Clots Shows size and frequency. Pain score Shows how pain changes. Pain location Shows where pain repeats. Pelvic pressure or fullness Shows symptoms outside bleeding. Bowel or bladder symptoms Shows overlap that may need review. Missed work, school, sleep, or plans Shows daily impact.
Use the heavy period visit prep checklist if bleeding is the main issue. Use the uterine pain guide if pain timing is hard to explain.
Privacy note
Imaging follow up can involve bleeding, pain, sex pain, fertility, and pregnancy notes.
You can bring a short summary instead of a full app export. Ask what details the clinician needs. Ask what will go in your medical record.
Floriva can keep cycle notes on your device. Paper works too. Share the smallest record that still helps the visit.
