Emergency Contraception Data Privacy Checklist
A plain checklist for emergency contraception notes, searches, receipts, pharmacy records, screenshots, portals, backups, shared devices, and exports.
Emergency contraception can create a lot of small records.
A search can sit in history.
A receipt can name a store.
A screenshot can sync to cloud photos.
A pharmacy or portal note can stay in an account.
This checklist helps you find those copies. It is not legal advice. It is not medical advice. It does not promise privacy.
For medicine questions, ask a clinician, pharmacist, or the label.
1. Start with the smallest note
Write only what helps your question.
Leave out names, places, sex details, store names, and photos unless they help.
For period timing context, read Plan B period timing.
For medicine notes, use the medication and cycle notes list.
2. Check search history
Searches can tell a story before any app note does.
Check:
Browser history. Search app history. Private tabs still open. Voice assistant history. Autofill words. Shared tablet or laptop history. Work or school browser account. Synced browsers on old devices.
If a shared device is part of your concern, sign out when you are done.
3. Check receipts
Receipts can show a product, store, date, payment card, and location.
Look for:
Paper receipt. Email receipt. Text receipt. Store app receipt. Card app record. Rewards account record. Delivery receipt. Photo of a receipt.
Ask:
Do I need this receipt? Does it show the product name? Does it show the store? Does it show a card or account? Is it in email search? Is it in cloud photos?
If you need a record, a short note may be enough.
4. Check pharmacy records
Some emergency contraception questions happen at a pharmacy.
Check:
Pharmacy app. Pickup texts. Email alerts. Phone calls. Voicemail. Family account access. Saved payment details. Delivery address. Insurance or claim records, if used. Old devices with the pharmacy app.
Ask the pharmacy what reminders, receipts, and profile access can show.
Use the pharmacy reproductive health privacy checklist for a deeper pharmacy audit.
5. Check screenshots and photos
Screenshots can save more than you meant.
Look for:
Product search screenshots. Label screenshots. Pharmacy app screenshots. Receipt photos. Portal screenshots. Text screenshots. Calendar screenshots. Recently deleted photos. Shared albums. Cloud photo backups.
If a short typed note works, you may not need the image.
6. Check portal messages
Clinic and pharmacy portals can keep message records.
Before you send a long note, ask what is needed.
Check:
Draft messages. Sent messages. Attachments. Quoted replies. After visit summaries. Proxy access. Email alerts. Lock screen alerts.
HHS says HIPAA gives rights for covered health records. It does not cover every app, search, receipt, or personal note.
7. Check calendar and period notes
Calendar labels can be too clear.
Look for:
EC. Emergency contraception. Plan B. Pharmacy. Test. Clinic. Late period. Follow up.
Use plain words if that is enough.
For late period notes, use the late period data privacy checklist.
8. Check shared devices and accounts
Shared access can make private notes visible.
Check:
Shared phone. Shared tablet. Shared laptop. Family browser profile. Shared Apple ID or Google account. Shared email inbox. Watch or wearable. Cloud drive. Password manager. Lock screen previews.
Also check old phones if they still sync messages or photos.
9. Check backups and exports
The FTC tells health app makers to minimize data and limit access.
You can use the same idea for your own copies.
Look for:
App exports. PDFs. CSV files. Downloads folder. Email attachments. Text attachments. Cloud backups. Old phones. Printed pages. Trash or recycle bin.
Before you export, ask:
Who needs this? Do they need the full file? Can I send a shorter note? Does the file show places? Does it show pharmacy details? Does it show partner or family details?
For a wider cleanup, use the period tracker data minimization guide.
10. A small Floriva note
Floriva can keep short cycle notes on your device.
Keep the note plain if that works.
Floriva cannot control screenshots, exports, backups, portal messages, shared devices, receipts, or pharmacy records.
