Late Period Data Privacy Checklist
A privacy checklist for late or missed period notes, pregnancy-test notes if relevant, searches, screenshots, portal messages, location clues, calendar labels, shared devices, backups, and app exports.
A late period can lead to many small records.
One note can become a search.
It can become a screenshot, test photo, portal message, or calendar label.
This checklist helps you find those copies.
It is not legal advice. It does not promise privacy. It does not tell you if you are pregnant.
1. Write the smallest useful note
Start with only what you need.
You can add more later if it helps.
You can skip sex details.
You can skip travel, names, clinics, and exact places.
Keep them only if they help your care question.
For timing, use the early or late period timing log.
For causes to ask about, read why is my period late.
2. Check web history
Search history can reveal worry before any app note does.
Check:
Browser history. Private tabs that are still open. Search app history. Voice assistant history. Shared tablet or laptop history. Work or school browser account. Autofill words in the search bar.
If you use a shared device, sign out when you are done.
Also check synced browsers on other devices.
3. Check screenshots and photos
Screenshots can save more than you meant.
Look for:
Period app charts. Test photos, if relevant. Search result screenshots. Text message screenshots. Portal message screenshots. Calendar screenshots. Recently deleted photos. Shared albums. Cloud photo backups.
Ask what the image proves.
If a short note works, you may not need the image.
4. Check pregnancy test notes, if relevant
This checklist does not tell you if you are pregnant.
OWH says many home tests are often more accurate after a missed period starts.
If you write a test note, keep it short.
Detail Keep it? Test date yes / no Test result words yes / no Brand or store yes / no Photo yes / no Receipt yes / no Where the test was taken yes / no Who knows yes / no
Follow the test directions.
Ask a clinician if you are unsure what to do next.
5. Check portal messages
Portal messages can become part of your record.
Before you send a full log, ask what the care team needs.
Check:
Draft messages. Sent messages. Attachments. Quoted replies. After visit summaries. Proxy access. Email alerts. Lock screen alerts.
HHS says HIPAA gives rights for covered health records.
It also says many groups with health data do not have to follow HIPAA.
This page cannot tell you what your portal allows.
6. Check travel and location clues
Late period notes can join place data.
Check:
Calendar events. Maps history. Ride apps. Parking apps. Hotel or flight apps. Photos with place data. Fitness routes. Store rewards apps. Receipts in email.
Ask:
Does this show home? Does this show a clinic? Does this show a store? Does this show travel dates? Does it connect to a period note?
For workout and route data, read the fitness app period data privacy checklist.
7. Check calendar labels
Calendar names can be too clear.
Look for labels like:
Period late. Test. Clinic. Pharmacy. Lab. Follow up. Missed period.
Use a plain label if that is enough.
Example:
Check shared calendars too.
8. Check shared devices and accounts
Shared access can make private notes visible.
Check:
Shared phone. Shared tablet. Shared laptop. Family browser profile. Shared Apple ID or Google account. Watch or wearable. Cloud drive. Password manager. Email previews. Text message previews.
Sign out where it makes sense.
Turn off previews if they show too much.
9. Check backups and exports
Privacy guidance for health apps favors minimizing data and limiting access.
You can use the same idea for your own copies.
Look for:
App exports. PDFs. CSV files. Downloads folder. Email attachments. Text attachments. Cloud backups. Old phones. Printed pages. Trash or recycle bin.
Before you export, ask:
Who needs this? Do they need the full file? Can I send a shorter note? Does the file show places? Does the file show test notes? Does the file show partner or family details?
For broader cleanup, use the period tracker data minimization guide.
10. Floriva note plan
Floriva can keep short cycle notes on your device.
Use a small note when that is enough.
Floriva cannot control copies made through screenshots, exports, backups, portal messages, shared devices, or other apps.
If you are getting ready for a visit, read Floriva for gynecologist prep.
If exercise or weight changed, use the exercise and weight change period log.
