Period Blood on Sheets Laundry Guide

Use cold water first.
Do not use hot water on blood stains.

First five minutes
If the sheet is still damp, act on that part first.

Cold water matters.
ACI says hot water can set blood stains.
Heat can also make a stain harder to change later.

Use this when the stain is new.

Do not put the sheet in the dryer first.
The dryer can set what is still left.
Air dry if you are not sure.
Dried stain plan
Dry stains often need more time.
ACI says dried blood stains can be pretreated or soaked with an enzyme product.
Use the product label.
Use the sheet tag.

Do not mix stain products.
More products do not mean more safety.
Bleach safety check
Bleach is not a first step for every sheet.
Some sheets can fade or weaken.
Some products cannot mix safely.
CDC says not to mix bleach with other cleaners or disinfectants.

If the tag says no bleach, skip it.
If you are not sure, skip it.

Do not wash every item the same way.

One leak can happen.
Repeated soak through may be worth a note.
Do not diagnose yourself from a sheet.
CDC says heavy bleeding can include soaking through pads or tampons every hour for several hours.
CDC also says heavy bleeding is a reason to talk with a healthcare provider.

Privacy notes
A stain photo can show more than the stain.
