Missed Birth Control Pill Question List

A plain question list for missed birth control pills: what to check, what to ask a pharmacist, and what to write down without guessing.

Missing a pill can make you feel rushed.

Pause before you guess.

This list helps you collect facts for your pill package, pharmacist, clinician, or urgent care.

It does not give missed pill steps. It does not tell you what dose to take. It does not tell you if you need emergency contraception. It does not read a pregnancy test.

Quick safety note

Use your pill package first.

Call a pharmacist or clinician if:

The package instructions are unclear. You do not know your pill type. You missed more than one pill. You were sick near a dose. You had sex and feel worried. You have severe pain, heavy bleeding, or feel unsafe.

If you feel very sick, seek urgent care.

What to find before you ask

Write only what you know.

Question Your note Pill name or brand Pill type, if known combination / progestin only / not sure Pack size 21 / 28 / other / not sure Pack week first / middle / last / not sure Last pill taken Missed pill date and time Number of pills missed Vomiting or diarrhea near a dose yes / no / not sure New medicine or supplement Sex or pregnancy concern, if you choose Main question

Do not fill in a guess as a fact.

Package check

Look for these words in your package paper or app pharmacy record.

What to find Where I found it Pill type What counts as late What counts as missed What to do after one missed pill What to do after more than one missed pill What to do after illness near a dose When to call a clinician Phone number for pharmacy or clinic

If your pack and search results disagree, ask a pharmacist.

Questions for a pharmacist

Read these out loud if you freeze.

Can you help me read my exact package instructions? What pill type is this? Where am I in the pack? What facts do you need from me? Does vomiting or diarrhea change what I should ask? Could a new medicine or supplement matter? Should I call my clinician today? What should I avoid doing on my own? What should I write down for next time?

Ask about your exact pill. Do not use a friend's instructions.

Questions for a clinician

Use these if you message or call a clinic.

I missed a pill and I am not sure what applies. What should I do? Do you need my pill name and pack week? Do you want to know how many pills I missed? Do you want to know about sex or pregnancy concern? Do you want to know about vomiting, diarrhea, or medicine changes? What symptoms mean I should seek urgent care? Should I keep a note of this in my chart? What should I track if bleeding starts?

Keep the message short. Facts help more than a long story.
