IUD Appointment Question Checklist

A plain question checklist for IUD insertion follow-up, unexpected bleeding, cramping, app exports, privacy, and visit summaries.

Use this checklist for an IUD insertion follow up. You can also use it if bleeding or cramps start after months or years.

This page does not tell you what is normal for you. It helps you ask clear questions. Your clinician can tell you what fits your IUD, health history, and symptoms.

Start with your main concern

Pick one or two.

Concern Check I have bleeding after insertion. I have cramps after insertion. Bleeding started after months or years. Cramps started after months or years. I have a strings question. I want to know when to call. I want to share app data safely.

My main question today:

Your note

Ask what to document

You do not need to track everything. Ask what matters for your case.

What dates should I write down? Should I track spotting and full bleeding? Should I track flow level? Should I count pads, tampons, liners, or cups? Should I track cramp timing? Should I use a 0 to 10 pain score? Should I note fever, odor, or discharge changes? Should I track sex related bleeding? Should I track strings notes? If yes, how? How many days or cycles should I track?

Ask when to call

Ask for your clinician's call plan. Write it down before you leave.

Question Clinician answer What symptoms mean I should call? What symptoms mean urgent care? What pain level should I report? What bleeding pattern should I report? What fever or odor concern should I report? What strings change should I report? What if I may be pregnant? Who do I call after hours?

Do not wait for a perfect log if you feel unsafe waiting. Call your clinician or urgent care for personal guidance.

Ask what data to bring

Bring less data if a clear summary is enough.

Data Bring? Notes Insertion or removal date Yes / no / maybe IUD type or brand Yes / no / maybe Bleeding dates Yes / no / maybe Flow notes Yes / no / maybe Pain scores Yes / no / maybe Fever or odor notes Yes / no / maybe Strings notes Yes / no / maybe Full app export Yes / no / maybe Screenshots Yes / no / maybe

Ask: "Is a one page summary enough for this visit?"

Ask about privacy before sharing

App exports can include more than your clinician needs.

Ask these questions first:

Will this export go in my medical record? Who can see it after I share it? Can I share a summary instead? Can I remove sex notes or pregnancy notes first? Can I bring screenshots instead of a full file? What data do you need for care today?

Read period tracking data for doctor appointments before you export. Use the data minimization guide if you want to share less.

How to summarize your pattern

Use this format.

"My IUD was placed on . My bleeding or cramps started on . It happens . The heaviest day was . My worst pain was out of 10. I also noticed . I want to know what to track and when to call."

If the pattern started after months or years, say that early. New timing can matter.

What to ask before you leave

What should I track next? When should I send a message? When should I book a visit? Should I bring the log next time? Should I avoid sharing any data you do not need? What is the follow up plan?

Floriva can help you keep private notes on your device. It is not a treatment tool. It is for pattern tracking and visit prep.
