Insomnia Before Period Sleep Log
A simple sleep log for insomnia before period timing, bedtime, wake time, night waking, energy, mood, cycle day, symptom notes, and visit questions.
Insomnia before a period can make the week feel messy.
You may forget when it started. You may forget how many nights it happened.
Use this log to keep the facts in one place. It does not tell you the cause. It does not tell you what to take or what to change.
This page is educational. It is not medical advice. It is not a crisis plan. If you already have a safety or crisis plan, use that plan first.
Start note
Fill this out once.
Question Your note Date sleep trouble started First day of last period Next period due, if known Cycle day, if known Days before bleeding, if known Main sleep issue falling asleep / waking up / waking too early Worst night so far Daytime energy low / medium / high Mood note, if any Main care question
Plain words are enough. "Awake from 2 AM to 4 AM" is useful.
Nightly sleep log
Fill this out in the morning.
Date Bedtime Time it took to sleep Wake time Awakenings Time awake at night Sleep quality Energy next day : poor / okay / good low / medium / high
Do not try to make the log perfect. A rough time is better than a blank row.
Cycle timing log
Use this to see where sleep trouble sits in the cycle.
Date Cycle day Period timing Bleeding Cramps or pain Mood shift Fatigue Notes : before / during / after / not sure none / spotting / flow no / yes no / yes no / yes
ACOG lists insomnia as one possible PMS symptom. That does not mean PMS is the cause for you.
What changed your day?
Check what fits.
I had a hard time starting work or school. I missed plans. I felt foggy. I felt more irritable. I felt low. I felt anxious. I needed more rest. I had cramps or pelvic pain. I had breast pain. I had headaches. I had night sweats. Bleeding started soon after.
This list is for context. It does not diagnose PMS, PMDD, pregnancy, anxiety, depression, or a sleep disorder.
Pattern review
After one week or one cycle, answer these.
Question Your note How many nights had trouble falling asleep? How many nights had long wake ups? How many nights ended too early? How many days before bleeding did it start? Did sleep change after bleeding started? Did fatigue, mood, pain, or sweats show up too? Did this happen outside period timing? What is the main question for care?
Use the pattern. Do not force a label.
Questions for care
Pick the questions you want to ask.
Could this timing fit a premenstrual pattern? What else could affect my sleep? How many cycles should I track? What symptoms mean I should call sooner? Should I bring a short sleep summary? Should I track fatigue, sweats, pain, or mood too? What details should I leave out unless they help care? Should I bring this to a gynecology visit?
Use Floriva for gynecologist prep if you want help turning notes into a visit list.
