CBC Heavy Period Question List

A CBC question list for heavy periods, hemoglobin, period notes, result follow-up, and what to ask a clinician.

A CBC is a blood test.

It can feel hard to ask about.

Use this list to bring clear notes.

Do not use it to read your result.

CBC question starter

Fill this in before a visit or message.

Prompt Your note Why I am asking heavy period / low energy / result follow up / other Period start date Bleeding days Heaviest day Fastest product change Clots or leaks Fatigue, dizzy, or weak? Shortness of breath? Main CBC question

NHLBI says CBC and hemoglobin may be checked when a clinician looks for iron deficiency anemia.

Ask what fits your case.

Questions before a CBC

Pick what fits.

Does my heavy bleeding history matter? Do my symptoms change what labs we discuss? Should we talk about a CBC? Should we talk about hemoglobin? Should we talk about ferritin too? Should we talk about blood iron too? What notes should I bring with me? When should I expect the result? Who will explain the result? What should I track until then?

For the wider lab list, use the heavy period iron test question list.

For ferritin follow up, use the ferritin result question card.

Heavy period details

CDC says heavy menstrual bleeding can include bleeding longer than 7 days.

It can also include clots or needing a new pad or tampon after less than 2 hours.

Use this note if those details fit.

For a fuller flow sheet, use the heavy period visit prep checklist.

For fatigue notes, use the tired during period energy log.

After the result

Do not guess from the number.

Ask for plain words.

Question Answer What did the CBC show? Does this answer my heavy period question? Should we review hemoglobin? Should we review ferritin or blood iron? What symptoms should I report? What should I track next cycle?

If the result lives in a portal, check what the page shows before sharing it.

Use the lab results period data privacy checklist.

Short script

Use this if you freeze up.

You do not need perfect notes.

You need enough detail to start the talk.
