Period Tracking on School-Issued Devices: What Students Should Know
School-issued laptops and tablets run MDM software that can monitor browser history, app installations, and web traffic. Here's what's visible and how to track your period safely as a student.
What School Devices Can See School issued devices are managed devices. The school owns them, controls the software on them, and has the technical and legal authority to monitor their use. Understanding what is visible is the first step. Browser History Every website you visit on a school device is logged. This includes: Period tracking websites (Flo web, Clue web, any browser based tracker) Health information searches ("am I pregnant," "late period causes," "pregnancy symptoms") Healthcare provider websites Any reproductive health resource Most school web filters categorize websites and flag or block certain categories. Health related sites may be logged even if they are not blocked. Installed Apps and Extensions On Chromebooks, school administrators see installed Chrome extensions and web apps. On managed iPads or laptops, MDM shows installed applications. Installing a period tracker app on a school device creates a visible record. Search History Google searches on a school managed Chrome browser are visible to administrators through Google Workspace for Education admin tools. Searching for period related health information on a school device is logged. Screen Monitoring Classroom
