Period Starts and Stops Log

A plain log for periods that start, stop, restart, or turn into spotting, with timing, flow, symptoms, and visit notes.

Use this log when bleeding starts, stops, and starts again.

It can help with notes like these.

"Started Monday, stopped Tuesday, came back Thursday." "Brown spotting, then flow, then nothing." "One heavy day, one quiet day, then light bleeding."

These notes cannot tell the cause.

They cannot rule out pregnancy.

They cannot tell you what care you need.

They can help you show the pattern.

Question Your note Last usual period start date Date this bleeding first started First full flow day, if any First pause day First restart day Usual period length Current birth control, if any Pregnancy test date and result, if relevant Biggest worry

If a pregnancy test matters for you, write the date.

The log does not diagnose pregnancy.

Daily start stop log

Use one row per day.

Date Cycle day Bleeding status Flow Color Pain 0 to 10 Clots Other symptoms Notes : : spotting / full flow / pause / restart / no bleeding none / light / medium / heavy pink / red / brown / other none / small / quarter size / larger dizzy / tired / nausea / fever / none

Mayo Clinic says it can help to track dates.

It also says to track flow, pain, and other changes.

Use plain words.

"Stopped for one day" is useful.

"Restarted as brown spotting" is useful too.

Flow pattern map

Circle or mark each day.

Day No bleeding Spotting Light flow Medium flow Heavy flow Notes Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 Day 9 Day 10

Office on Women's Health says to call for bleeding over eight days.

You do not need to finish the sheet before asking for care.

Pattern checklist

Check what fits.

Bleeding stopped for part of a day. Bleeding stopped for a full day. Bleeding came back as spotting. Bleeding came back as full flow. Bleeding was heavier than usual. Bleeding lasted longer than usual. Bleeding happened between periods. Pain was new or worse. I felt dizzy, weak, faint, or very tired. I soaked a pad or tampon every one to two hours. I passed clots larger than a quarter. Pregnancy is possible. This happened after menopause.

This checklist is for notes only.

It does not tell you the cause.

Questions to bring to care

Pick the ones you want.

Does my start stop pattern count as abnormal bleeding? Should I track spotting and full flow as separate things? What symptoms mean I should call sooner? Should pregnancy testing be part of this question? Could birth control or a new medicine affect this pattern? Should I track one cycle or more? What details should I leave out of an export? Is a short summary enough for this visit?

For a longer visit sheet, use the abnormal bleeding diary.

One page summary

Fill this out before a visit or message.

Summary item Your note Bleeding first started First full flow day Pause day or days Restart day or days Total days with any bleeding Heaviest flow day Worst pain score Clots Symptoms that worry me Main question

Keep this short.

A one page summary can be easier to read than a full log.

Privacy note

Start stop notes can include sex, tests, birth control, pain, and plans.

Keep the smallest useful record.

Floriva can keep short notes on your device.

Paper works too.

Share only what fits the visit.
